Nestled in the urban community town of Ngwenya, in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, YGAP volunteers spent five weeks constructing four classrooms. 6,672 children attend the Ngwenya School, which is identified by the Malawian Government as the nation’s ‘most overcrowded and disadvantaged educational institution’. Most lessons are taken outside due to lack of infrastructure.
Through YGAP’s partnership with Build A School and their representatives on the ground in Malawi, the volunteers and 20 local labourers constructed the much-needed classrooms in the searing heat and intense wet season.
After their extended time in Africa’s ‘warm heart’, the volunteers were able to formally hand over to the headmistress and open the four new classrooms! YGAP’s funds and labour spent at this school have truly supported the beautifully smiling, appreciative children and their wonderful community.
